What does it take to have healthy hair you ask? Let's start with every day care. First, I highly suggest not using heat on your hair every day. A blow dryer on medium heat if necessary. ESPECIALLY if you have lightened your hair. I also suggest using claw clips, loose braids, or some nice cloth ponytail holders that don't pull and wear them loose if you have to have your hair up. Having a silk pillow case also helps with tangles and does not cause your hair to dry out like cotton pillow cases. Or if you want to go big, get yourself a bonnet. Brush your hair before washing and avoid washing everyday if possible. When you do wash, focus on the root area. And when conditioning, focus more on the ends of your hair. Do not rough up your hair when drying with a towel or twist it tight with a towel on your head!
As far as products go, these are the products I would keep on hand: oil, leave in conditioner, a deep conditioner(once or twice a week), and a heat protectant. Depending on the texture and state of your hair will depend on the intensity of your products. Also, make sure you have a good balance of protein and hydration within your products. You can also get your protein through your food intake. But you don't want an overload of protein. It can make your hair brittle and break. So make sure there is a good balance. Lastly, I suggest having a clarifying shampoo on hand (make sure it's color safe if you have artificial color). This removes dirt, oil and and product build up off of your hair. It also helps remove a few of those minerals that come from our city water. For oily hair, I suggest clarifying every 7-10 days, normal hair every 2-3 weeks and for dry hair about 1 time a month. I hope this information is helpful. You can also book some amazing hair treatments at your local salon to aide in your hair health!
